Benefits of Eating Enough Protein

It’s repeated over and over.. it seems to be the cure all to everything.. kind of like Windex in My Big Fat Greek Wedding!

It is Protein!!

And yes, it IS that important!!

  • Builds and maintains muscle mass.

  • Improves satiety which can help to reduce cravings.

  • Boosts immune system. DYK "Proteins are made of amino acids. These compounds help turn key players in your immune system -- T cells, B cells, and antibodies -- into germ fighters that spot and kill harmful cells that enter your body before they can start an infection."(1)

  • Aids in weight loss and maintenance.

  • Helps repair and recover from injury faster.

So how much is enough?

As a general guide it is suggested that:

  • For the average person with average activity from lifestyle and exercise .08-1g/kg of bodyweight is a good minimum to aim for.

  • For athletes ranging from strength to endurance, the needs will vary and absolutely be higher. This might look something like 1-3g/kg of bodyweight.

  • When intentionally eating in a controlled calorie deficit, the needs will also be higher at around 2-3g/kg of bodyweight.

Friends, eat your protein!!

*Always check with your physician before making big changes to your nutritional intake!
