Do You Have a Sedentary Lifestyle?

Desk job? Necessary excessive daily driving?

Or other reasons you cannot readily avoid?

Have you ever wondered what impacts it could have on your overall health and if there are any simple actions you can take that may help minimize any negative effects?

In an article published by Duke Integrative Medicine it is said that,

“Research now shows a sedentary lifestyle, regardless of exercise or other good habits, to be associated with a greater risk of mortality – one that rivals smoking.”

Don’t freak out just yet!! What it also concluded was that interrupting prolonged sitting with regular activity breaks will combat the negative health effects.

As a bonus, other unrelated studies have also shown that focused work and break intervals improves productivity, so it’s a win-win here!!

Also, if you look back, you'll find another blog post written on NEAT (Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis)!! Well, here’s more supporting evidence that increasing your daily amount of NEAT is a good thing!!

***Find that blog post HERE.***

The article linked above elaborates on the effects of a sedentary lifestyle and gives a ton of recommendations on how to easily incorporate more activity into your daily routines!!

"Health, as defined by the World Health Organization, is a state of optimal physical, mental and social wellbeing – not merely the absence of disease. Therefore, it is vital not only to be free of illness but also to be feeling our best and thriving every day.”

Take an Active Break!

There is plenty of research that show the benefits of taking scheduled breaks and how it positively impacts your productivity. But it's so easy to get caught up in a task, an email, an equation, etc. and not even realize how long you've been working until you hit "the wall" and your brain says, "Nope!"

Have you ever tried a focus timer? They're so easy to use and you can set your work time as well as your break time. When you start working simply hit start and let it do the timing for you!

Click the links below to check out our preferred focus timer apps for both Android and iOS devices!
