We’re back and continuing on the subject of the myths of motivation!
In the previous blog post we touched on
Being motivated means you will always feel like doing it (whatever the it may be for you at the moment)
Motivation comes from external sources
Go back and check it out if you haven't yet!!
Myths:
3. Just think positive. If you believe it, it will happen.
Not entirely true! You can’t positive think yourself into being motivated or to achieving anything!
I’m not knocking positive thinking here by any means, but the application of it is where things can get a little shady.
Thinking positively and knowing what you want to achieve and telling yourself you CAN do this is great.. But, again, you cannot just think yourself 10 pounds lighter, or think yourself rich, or happy and anything else! You HAVE to TAKE ACTION!!
So sitting in bed thinking, “I’m going to be motivated tomorrow and I’m going to be happy about doing XYZ tomorrow” isn’t what is actually going to get you out of bed, or get the 10 pages of that book read, or get you to the gym after work, or take any action at all…
4. People who continue to improve in their endeavors, are always motivated.
“Greatness is not something predetermined, predestined, or carved into your fate by forces beyond your control. Greatness is always in the moment of the decision.” - The Slight Edge
People who continue to improve know that motivation doesn’t get you through the long run.. Choosing to take action does. Continuously choosing the option that enables you to continue on the path of improvement does. They don’t need motivation because they have learned discipline.
5. People who are always motivated maintain their motivation because it is easy for them.
Easy is subjective.. And it’s all in how you perceive it. You are putting your effort somewhere, it’s just a matter of choosing to focus it on actions that lead you to your success.
“Remember, no more effort is required to aim high in life, to demand abundance and prosperity, than is required to accept misery and poverty.” - Napoleon Hill
Change Your Habits.. Change Your Mindset.. Then it Becomes a Lifestyle!
Make the choice to take action... and keep an eye out for the next, and final, blog post in this series for 2 more motivation myths and how to continue to bust through the plateaus these myths create for us!
